Work with us
For the last 35 years, independent fostering organisations (like Diverse Care and Xcel 2000 - the two organisations working together to make the Hazel Project) have been looking after some of the most vulnerable children in the country on behalf of Local Authorities. The work is equal parts challenging and rewarding. All of our children have experienced trauma that no child should. As a result, many of our children will be struggling at school and with their emotions and with their behaviour. Intellectually we can understand and explain their struggles - but the amazing bit of the work is that we manage to find truly astounding families who can live alongside these children and who contribute a great deal to their healing.
The founders of The Hazel Project grew up in a fostering family in the ‘70’s and have devoted their lives to improving the standards of care for children who need to live in families other than their own. Our track records of delivering outstanding services to vulnerable children mean that we have an impeccable reputation and have the very best staff who will accompany you on your career in fostering.

Why foster with The Hazel Project?
Fostering is unlike any other job - it's a 24/7 commitment and it is important that you have a team around you that you can trust.
Reward
You will be joining a team of incredible people who want you to succeed and will provide the support and the tools that you need to do so. We highly value the work that Foster Parents do and think it is important to reward the people who do it - surprises, social events and competitions galore!
Choice
We need a wide range of Foster Parents to care for the wide range of children needing safe, stable and loving homes. It is natural to have a preference for the age of child you feel comfortable fostering and you would never be pressured to care for a child who you did not feel would be a good match for you.
Training
Our foster families have access to a suite of services and a comprehensive individualised training programme to help them meet the needs of the young people that they care for. Training is delivered by experts in the field to ensure that you go away with new knowledge and understanding.
Respite
Just like any other role, sometimes you need a break to recharge your batteries and return refreshed and able to deliver the very best care. Our Foster Parents are entitled to 21 days respite per year. Foster children will enjoy holiday time with another of our foster families so that you are confident that they are still being well looked after.
Pay
There is a strange opinion in this country that Foster Parents should not be well paid for the work they do. If we want the best people in the country to perform the task of living alongside traumatised children - we believe we have to pay them well. Otherwise, some people who could be incredible Foster Parents will be lost to other professions.
Out of hours
Our phone lines are manned by 3 wonderful, experienced members of our team who you will get to know personally. Whether it's 2am or Christmas day, you will never be left to deal with a challenging situation alone and will receive expert support, guidance and kindness if things get tough.
