Our Hiring Process
- Stage 1
Request a brochure
Diverse Care & Xcel 2000 (which together make The Hazel Project) are both rated outstanding by Ofsted and work together to provide safe, stable and loving homes to children in care.
We really hope that our brochure gives you a comprehensive overview of fostering with us and should be a convenient way for you to gather the information that you need and we hope that it will inspire you to want to become part of the team!
If you have any questions, please do get in touch on 0800 7 747 747.
- Stage 2
Initial phone conversation
We will give you a call to check that you have recieved the brochure and see if you have any initial questions that we can help with.
- Stage 3
Fostering information visit
We will arrange to meet with you, either in your home or, if you would prefer, at our offices or via zoom. This hour long visit gives you an opportunity to ask more detailed questions relating to your unique circumstances and we want to make sure that you have all of the information that you need to decide whether you would like to foster with us.
- Stage 4
Skills to foster course
Our two day Skills to Foster course is designed to help equip you with some useful tools for your fostering journey.
We can't teach you how to care for other peoples children - it's an underated skill that good Foster Parents naturally have, but we can give you a better insight into the reasons why children who have been subject to trauma may be behaving in certain ways and some tips on how to help them.
It is also a good opportunity for you to get to know us better and meet other people on the same journey as you - many of whom may become good friends.

- Stage 5
Fostering application form
When you are ready, we will send you our application form to complete.
If all is well with your fostering application form, we will organise an Initial Home Visit and the assessment process can begin.
The assessment page of the brochure gives a good insight into what the fostering assessment involves and we also discuss assessment steps in more depth at your Fostering Information visit.
From recieving your application form to being approved to foster is usually a 4-6 month process.
We have a dedicated recruitment team who will walk you through the assessment, step by step and let you know what we need from you at each stage to ensure that it is as smooth and stress free as possible.
